We have a blast with this game. We have solved all the free puzzles, but can go back and redo them. Our only wish is that it would not try to connect to the store before giving us the option to retry a puzzle we have already solved.

We love that you can use highlighter and xs. Love that we can set it to dark mode. Like that its very low stimuli and theres nothing moving great set-up. Our only issue is we wish there were more of the expert levels (including the additional pack). Or other packs available to purchase. Overall really good app. Its thoughtful design is a mix of simplicity and functionality. This is our favorite game & this version is very good. No adds or anything moving on the screen! Actual levels are good; they are notably varied given the nature of the game. We like that we can play the easy levels when we dont have a lot of time and expert when im more focused on it. Its calming and challenging. Well-designed. Pls make more expert levels.

We cant understate enough how much entertainment value we get out of this game. We love puzzlers, and this one is the best. Its not the most complicated, the most challenging, and it doesnt have the best graphics. But it doesnt need any of that. It is casual brain exercising at its finest. Whether its late at night or in the middle of the day, we can count on this game to keep us entertained! We have probably played it every day since we downloaded it over a year agoand Im not even that much of a gamer.

We have loved logic puzzles from this developer for YEARS. Super thrilled to see so much thought put into this well-developed game with simple functionality and a fun twist on a classic.

We’ve spent countless hours mastering this puzzle. Initially the easy puzzles were fairly easy but the hard and expert puzzles were impossible without brute force trial and error. After playing the easy puzzles for several months we learned enough that the hard puzzles were getting solvable. We then spent a year solving the hard puzzles over and over again until relatively recently when we graduated to the expert puzzles. Just finally bought the expert expansion and we can generally solve any of those. Many seem quite easy now. But it took us forever to spot all the different patterns to get to this point.

The game is amazing so fun and satisfying but please give stats in the app like time and how many times you start over.

Simple, fun, and very engaging! We play this every day and have loved learning and teaching myself strategies.

A simple but challenging logic game, in a beautiful, minimal app that is the perfect way to play it. No frills or upswells, just a functional and aesthetically pleasing interface to play the puzzles.

Perfect mix of challenge and logic. Excellent tools to mark your progress and go back if you make a mistake. 3 levels are very appropriate. Highly recommended.

Like it but hints would make it SO much better, as well as a medium level in between easy and hard.

Its just black and white. Maybe we missed something..? We downloaded this for the color we saw on an android but no dice! Having colored sections makes for a better experience.

Really well designed app, no ads, such an easy way to play Star Battles! Thank you for making this. We only wish there were more puzzles available.

We just saw one of these puzzles in the NYT and thought Id give it a try. Its a great mental exercise.

If you are looking for a simple and extremely (at least for me) difficult puzzle, Star Battle Go is for you! They are difficult from the very first one. The rules as simple. The solution is complicated. We have spent hours and days working through the first two levels. They present an interesting challenge and are solvable without having to resort to trial and error. They all have a key discovery to be made. Once made, the solution spreads out before you. Enjoy!

Cant stop playing even if we wanted to. We started doing the 14×14 3 star battles on the krazydad website because we finished all 150 on the app… The app should add those!!

We love these logic puzzles! Challenging, yet entertaining. Our only comment for improvement would be setting up some kind of indexing to see which puzzles are solved and which are not. We bought the combo bundle which should contain 1000 hard puzzles. But every time we give up on some of the puzzles and try to load a new one, we feel like we get repeat of the same puzzle. Im sure that is not the case. But indexing and numbering each puzzle could easily solve this.

This is the first review we’ve ever left for an app, so that should speak volumes. As a software engineer Im constantly criticizing apps for poor UX, design choices, and layout. This app absolutely nails it. Its clean, the tutorial is phenomenally done, there are no pop-ups and the customization is thought out. We truly wish more apps were designed with as much thought as this one. Hats off to the developers, ill definitely be purchasing more levels as we get through them!

Very addictive and in general very well implemented. Yes, theres no hint button, but you can of course guess and try again. Our complaint is about the order/sequencing of puzzles. We’ve solved (or ok, in a couple of instances guessed) all the easy set and about 20% of the hard level, but although we can solve or make progress with some, we get stuck on some, and would prefer to bypass the hardest ones and come back to them later, hopefully after having learned new techniques that make them solveable. Instead, we keep getting rerouted to the same 15 or 20 that we’ve gotten stuck on before, and have to ask for a new puzzle dozens of time before arriving at a fresh one. A completely randomized order would be so much better.

This is a solid game! Our only qualm is that the easy puzzles quickly became VERY easy but the hard are SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult than Easy. As another reviewer pondered- are they all solvable with logic alone it is guessing necessary? We find myself completely stumped on the hard levels so often!

We love the app. Our only complaint is that there is too big a gap between easy and hard. We can solve all of the easy ones very quickly, including the add-on batch that we purchased, but we still cant solve the hard ones at all, except occasionally via a lucky guess. We cant even imagine what expert must be like. We would like to see an intermediate class that is hard enough to be interesting without being completely impossible for someone relatively new to the game. Alternatively (or in addition), the built-in tutorial could includes some tips on advanced techniques relevant to the hard and expert puzzles.

These are excellent little puzzles deceptively tricky given how simple the rule set is. The controls for this are clean and intuitive. The one thing Id like (which is why we docked a star) is the ability to go back and re-try puzzles. Right now if you get stumped you cant go to another puzzle and come back to the one that stumped you. You essentially have to give up entirely to do another puzzle. Id love a system like in some other games where you can see all the puzzles (solved and not) and go back to the ones you wanted. A minor frustration in an otherwise excellent app.

This is the sort of logic puzzle we love, simple and satisfying. The new swipe-to-block gesture makes it even easier to play. Our only disappointment is the number of times Im seeing the same puzzle come up as we work through the packs. You have the option of restarting the puzzle or starting a new one, but New frequently isnt.

We consider myself a skilled solver of these puzzles, but we’ve encountered several levels where we’ve run out of logical pathways to the solution and must randomly make one or more coin-toss guesses to see if they pan out. We really do wonder if the ability to solve these puzzles through logic alone has been verified.

We find these puzzles very fun but there are only 150 total puzzles (50 easy, 50 hard and 50 expert) that are free. There are 1000 puzzles of each difficulty and it costs a bunch for. We wish more free levels were offered.

We love doing these puzzles on KrazyDad but we wish the app had the 14×14 3-star puzzles.

We used to like this app but the latest version pushes in-app purchases way too aggressively. We can no longer start a new game without being asked to purchases new levels. We assume its because we already solved all the original ones but at least give us a way to reset or something instead. Ironically, Id likely buy the new levels if it wasnt so hostile about buying them. Its really put a bad taste in our mouth.

We love the two not touch puzzles in the NYT and cant get enough! Thankfully there is this app which is very well done for iOS. It is easy to click the grid and there are lots of puzzles to challenge you. We would love a hint mode though, cuz sometimes we get stuck especially in hard mode!

We have never written a review before, but we love this mind bender so very much that we felt obligated to share our joy in the hopes that others will get on board while this is still FREE! We learned of this through the New York Times after completing the crossword. At first we were quite confused, but after finally solving one quickly became addicted. We found KrazyDad. Com online because we wanted MORE! Having clicked our mouse 10,000 times we practically got carpal tunnel in right wrist! Now to be able to play on our iPhone is fantastic! We would happily pay for this app! THANK YOU!

Such a great game. We had a hard time at first, but once we got the hang of it we became addicted. Cant wait for more puzzles.

EDITED TO ADD: Could you move the undo/redo buttons farther from the board? Its too easy to hit the board by mistake. An added feature, maybe? Allow to save a puzzle in a certain state to reload after trying an option. Thanks for the game.

We are not sure how we missed it, but we have never heard of this form of puzzle although we are an addict at every version of sudoku and KENKEN we have ever seen. This one perplexed us when we first started it, but we are learning quickly. So glad we found this.

We loved this game in the NYT and so glad to see it in such a sleek app.

This is a fantastically solid puzzle game with beautifully simple UI. Please note that the suggestions below are listed in good faith. (Possible) bugs: – (iPhone 7+) Line width distinction between grid lines and segment lines are too similar. It is extremely difficult to distinguish. Features that are necessary: – Drag gesture. A feature for placing multiple X’s, stars, highlights in quick succession by dragging finger. – More puzzles. – Easier puzzles. Game improvement feature ideas: – Toggle-able night mode. – Toolbar: default (single tap for X, double tap for star), only X, only star, erase, highlighter. – More highlighter colors. – Selectable highlighter color palette. – 1 star puzzles (1 star per row, column, section). – 3 star puzzles (3 stars per row, column, section). – Alternate color themes. Respectfully, A Humble Consumer.

For us the mark of a good puzzler is that our screen turns off it means we sat there for 5 minutes looking at the screen, without making a move, just working it out in our head. On that score, this gets our highest marks. And its a simple grid with lines and stars, and 2 rules. Amazing!

We are addicted to this game. However, we are stumped on the last three of the easy puzzles. We wish we could have a hint. And we wish there were more easy puzzles. At this point, our only options are to keep trying these three that we have been stuck on for a couple of days, or to try the harder level (I did try the harder level a couple of times and we havent even solved one of those yet).

This app has great puzzles in a very simple, nice-looking, and easy to use interface. We do think its missing a few basic features a puzzle app like this should have: – No timer. Id like to be able to see how quickly we solved the puzzles. – No way to revisit previous puzzles. You can only pick the next puzzle of the 3 difficulties, or resume where you left off. – No easy way to switch color in the brush tool. Only two colors are available, and to get the second you must tap a colored square again, which makes using the second color tedious. Itd be great if a small palette for choosing a color were available. – No way to quickly edit multiple cells. If you want to quickly put an x in a whole row (something that comes up a lot), you need to individually tap all the cells in the row, which is slow and error prone. Itd be nice to be able to drag to select multiple cells and then mass edit them, or swipe over multiple to put an x or color all at once (the web app at KrazyDad. Com offers this) – Option to automatically add xs to a row, column, or region when a second star is added to it. Auto-placing of xs around stars is offered, so it seems this should be as well. We hope these suggestions are helpful, and appreciate all the responses from the developers. Thank you for providing entertainment during lockdown!

Really wish that had a check so you can see where you went wrong.

This game is super fun and well made. Love it!!!!

We do not usually go in for these sort of puzzles but we picked up this one on the recommendation of a friend. We didnt initially pay it too much attention after downloading but then took the time to go through the tutorial and now really like it. Its quite nice in its simple and clean design and does a great job of occupying both the we have five minutes to fiddle with a puzzle and im going to just relax and do this for a half-hour mental spaces. Shockingly, we find myself thinking about puzzles when im not playing. Looking forward to more!

Found out about this type of puzzle about a month ago. Very pleased to find an app for it. No issues with the app, we’ve played one level each and everything worked. If you like logic puzzles then you will definitely like this.

We love playing starbattle puzzles. They are just difficult enough and just possible enough. Sometimes we do a bunch in a row or sometimes we’ll start a hard one and just come back to it until we finish it. We find them to be really relaxing even though they’re challenging. We also think this app is very well designed — no clutter, good puzzles, easy marking tools, and you can let it do things for you (like auto eliminate around a placed star) or you can choose to do everything yourself. A+ for a fun game and a great app!!!

We’ve been obsessively playing star battle puzzles since discovering them in the New York Times Puzzle Mania special edition. This app is the best way we’ve found to play on our phone. Very nicely done!

A really nice, clean implementation of Star Battle puzzles. The UI is simple and effective, letting you mark stars, places where you dont think theres a star, and even color squares for reference. (It also clearly shows you when youve exceeded the number of stars in a line.) The puzzles are neatly arranged into three difficulty categories, and the tutorials and references on how to solve these kinds of puzzles are put together well.

Thank GOD this app exists. The other star battle apps are a hot hot mess. This version is super cleanly designed and the puzzles are a perfect range of easy to challenging. Thank you!
